Cleaner in a work polo and gloves wiping a window frame in a sunlit Lisbon flat

A cleaning service for Cascais and Estoril homes.

What is different out here

The coast is not a suburb of Lisbon, at least not for this trade

Cascais sits fourth on searches for cleaning in this metro area and first on what a request is worth. The reason is the housing, not the postcode.

Houses instead of flats

Two floors, a garden, outdoor furniture, a garage and often a pool house. That is not a three-hour visit in any arrangement, and it usually means two people rather than one, which changes how the work is organised and priced.

Properties that stand empty

A large share of the stock between Estoril and Guincho is a second home used a few months a year. Empty houses need airing, dust management and a check before arrival far more than they need weekly floors — a completely different brief.

Salt, sand and pollen

Everything within sight of the sea carries a salt film. Glass, aluminium frames and outdoor metal need attention on a schedule that inland Lisbon simply does not, and the summer sand from Carcavelos and Parede gets into everything.

The line

From Algés to Guincho, stop by stop

Coverage along this stretch follows the road and the railway line rather than the municipal boundary. Somebody who works in Carcavelos in the morning can be in Estoril by noon; getting from Cascais up to Alcabideche and back twice in a day is a different proposition.

Worth saying up front

Five details that change the answer along this coast

Mention these when you ask and you will get a realistic reply instead of a polite one.

  • Whether there is a gate, a code or a concierge. Gated developments are common here and each has its own access rules. A business that cannot get through the gate at eight in the morning cannot take the slot.
  • Whether the property is occupied. An empty house checked twice a month is a maintenance arrangement, not a cleaning one, and it suits a different kind of business entirely.
  • How much glass there is. Sea-facing houses tend to be mostly window. Glass is slow, and on an upper floor it may need equipment or a separate specialist.
  • Whether outdoor space is included. Terraces, decking, pool surrounds and garden furniture are real work with their own seasons, and they are almost never assumed to be part of an indoor price.
  • How you want to be invoiced. Second-home owners frequently want a company invoice for a property held through a company, or need it in a specific name. Simple to arrange in advance, awkward afterwards.

What people ask about the Cascais line

Does anybody actually travel from Lisbon out to Cascais?

For a single three-hour visit, rarely — the journey costs more than the job earns. For a standing arrangement, or a house that needs a full day, yes. This is why asking for a regular slot gets a much better response out here than asking for one afternoon in a fortnight.

Is a house with a garden and a pool a different job?

It is several different jobs, and only one of them is cleaning. Pool maintenance and gardening are separate trades with their own equipment and their own people. Some cleaning businesses coordinate all three; most do the inside and expect you to have arranged the rest.

What about a place that is empty for eight months a year?

That needs a caretaking arrangement rather than a cleaning schedule: airing, running the taps, checking for damp and leaks, and a proper clean timed to your arrival instead of to the calendar. Say that this is what you want, because it is not what the word 'cleaning' asks for.

Is Carcavelos, Parede and São Domingos de Rana covered too?

They are the densest part of this stretch and the easiest to cover, because the distances between jobs are short. Coverage thins going inland towards Alcabideche and Malveira da Serra, where a single property can eat half a working day in travel alone.

Does salt air change what needs cleaning?

Noticeably. Glass hazes over faster, aluminium and stainless steel fittings pit if left, and outdoor fabric holds damp. Houses within a few hundred metres of the water generally need window and exterior attention on a cycle, not just when it looks bad.

How do gated condominiums handle access?

Every one differently, which is the point. Some register a named person with the concierge, some issue a card, some require the owner to authorise each visit in advance. Find out which yours is before you agree a schedule, because it decides whether an early morning slot is even possible.
